Colleagues Celebrate Black History Month Together
Colleagues from across Barca-Leeds came together this month to celebrate Black History Month, enjoying an afternoon of conversation, shared experiences and cultural celebration.
The event brought staff from different teams and services together over a selection of Caribbean and African food, creating space for colleagues to connect, learn from one another and celebrate the diversity that strengthens our organisation. A lively Black History Month quiz followed, sparking friendly competition while highlighting the achievements, contributions and stories of Black individuals and communities throughout history.
This staff-led celebration was organised by Respect, Barca-Leeds' staff group dedicated to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion, bringing colleagues together to celebrate Black History Month while helping to create a more inclusive and connected workplace.
At Barca-Leeds, we know that strong communities start with strong relationships. Bringing people together in this way helps build understanding, encourages meaningful conversations and creates opportunities for colleagues to learn from different cultures, experiences and perspectives.
The celebration reflected our ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued, respected and able to bring their whole selves to work. By taking time to come together, share stories and celebrate diversity, we continue to strengthen the connections that help us better support the children, young people, adults and communities we work alongside every day.
One staff member said: "It was fantastic to see colleagues from across the organisation come together to celebrate Black History Month. Sharing food, learning through the quiz and spending time together created a real sense of connection and belonging. Events like this remind us of the importance of celebrating diversity and learning from one another."
